An attorney, author, and expert in neurolinguistics, L. Jay Mitchell focuses on helping young people overcome trauma. L. Jay Mitchell founded Greenbrier Academy for Girls in West Virginia in 2007. Through this academy, he implements unique and effective interventions for social and emotional problems while also providing a quality, accredited academic program. He recognizes that nervous system trauma is a condition unto itself, and not just the cause of conditions like anxiety and depression.
At Greenbrier, Mr. Mitchell has created a range of opportunities for promoting mental health among its students, including art therapy, animal rescue programs, neurofeedback, and more. The school employs an applied relationality model, which Mr. Mitchell developed in collaboration with clinical psychologist Dr. Brent D. Slife.
Mr. Mitchell wrote Decide Now: The Good Life or the Best Life, a book that empowers readers to build constructive relationships and achieve greater fulfillment. He also coauthored a piece for Casebook for a Spiritual Strategy in Counseling in Psychotherapy.
